My name is Deric Shaw, the
author of A Chance Encounter, a book of short stories mainly based in the genre
of the supernatural which is, by and large, my forte. It represents the second
book of short stories I have written along with four novels each following the
same theme bordering on the occult. The stories in A Chance Encounter vary from
the revisiting well known themes of actual events such as the Mary Rose and the
Titanic but reworking what really might have happened if circumstances had
actually been different; to stories actually wholly invented from scratch such
as the one from which the book takes its title where a young man enters a bar
after work seeking some relaxation and a drink when a woman drops her purse which
he quickly and politely retrieves. This leads to a brief association which has
a devastating affect on his life. Again in the story A House with a Past a
young student whilst walking home from school encounters an old house which has
stood empty for many years. He enters it on a whim and what subequently happens
sees him entering a past world when the house was younger and solving a crime
that has remained unsolved for more than ninety years.
All the other stories have a similar and unusual twist and should appeal to
ayone whose mind has a tendency towards the strange and unusual. Have a good
read!
